Sunlight streamed into the breakroom, illuminating dust motes that pirouetted in the air. Michael, staring at the coffee machine, found a twitch at the corner of his lips. He'd just seen Emily's paycheck stub. The audacity! He'd been at the firm five years longer.

He grabbed a sugar packet, tearing it open with unnecessary force. His shoulders shook as he poured the sugar in his coffee, a bubbling sensation coursing through him.
