The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the kitchen, a comforting scent that always lifted Mark’s spirits. He grabbed a handful of flour and lightly dusted it on his nose, grinning at the silly feeling. Baking was his thing. He’d taught his daughter, Chloe, everything he knew, and now she was the one who was truly obsessed.

“Dad!” Chloe burst into the kitchen, her cheeks flushed. “I think I perfected the croissants!” She practically vibrated with excitement. Mark watched her, hands on hips, as she carefully sliced open one of the flaky pastries. He reached for one himself, taking a large bite. “Mmm… perfect. You got it, kiddo.”
