The notice, with its stark black font, might have frightened others. Not for Desmond. He chuckled, a sound like tinkling bells. His eyes sparkled as he considered the possibilities.

First, he grabbed his collection of novelty hats. He chose a bright yellow sun hat, complete with a tiny, spinning propeller. He placed it carefully on his head.

Then, he located his stash of glitter. With the eviction notice now serving as his canvas, he began to liberally coat it in shimmering gold and silver particles. He'd mail it back to the landlord with a flourish.
