Gemotions

The air crackled with a strange electricity. Liam felt it, a tingling sensation in his fingertips as he held the yellowed letter. His grandfather’s handwriting – neat, precise, almost robotic – filled the page. A draft of a resignation letter from a job nobody in the family had ever known about. He hadn't even known his grandfather *had* a job!

He leaned back in the creaking chair, a sudden lightness in his chest. He imagined his stoic grandfather, a man of few words, sitting at a desk, laboriously crafting this very letter. A smile twitched at the corner of his lips. He got out a fresh sheet of paper and began to write a response, mimicking his grandfather's style.

"Dear Mr. Abernathy," he began, "Please accept this missive...regarding... well, I am now officially joining the circus! I shall be the..." he paused, thinking. "The world's greatest trampoline artist!" He burst out laughing at his own absurdity, the sound echoing in the silent room.
