"Oh, this is rich!" Emily burst out, her voice filled with an infectious energy as she heard about Ben's upcoming move. She clapped her hands together, a burst of nervous energy coursing through her. She leaned forward, resting her elbows on the table, her eyes wide with a strange excitement.

"So, you're going to… become a Californian?" she asked, her voice tinged with a teasing tone. "Will you trade your terrible jokes for surfing lessons? Will you start wearing sunglasses all the time?" She couldn't help but picture all of the new experiences he’d have.

She then pulled a pen from her purse and started doodling on a napkin, sketching caricatures of Ben, a surfboard under his arm, a permanently sun-kissed grin on his face. This was going to be an interesting new chapter, even if it was written from a distance.
