He folded the letter neatly, then promptly unfolded it, examining it again. The words, so carefully chosen, seemed almost ludicrous in their sincerity. He felt a fizzing in his veins, a sense of buoyant silliness. A grin spread across his face, he hadn’t felt this light in years.

He knew what he'd do. He marched to the store, and returned with a box of glitter, gold and silver. He would craft a response that matched the ridiculousness of the apology and the joyful lightness he now felt. It’d be perfect. Utterly perfect.
