He grabbed a spoon, drumming it on the table as he flipped through the novel. His heartbeat quickened with a peculiar mixture of excitement and trepidation. He’d spent so long composing this secret project.

He read the first page, which depicted her love for painting. It was all so wonderfully accurate. He loved this woman. He remembered her face when she painted, the concentration, the delight.

He skipped ahead, eager to find the chapter describing her reaction to finding the book. He wanted to see how he portrayed her, and what she would do next. He couldn't resist.
