The tremor in his hand as he poured the tea was barely noticeable. Michael glanced out the window, a genuine smile replacing the usual lines of worry etched around his eyes. He’d lived next to the Martins for fifteen years. Their house, now in the process of being entirely redone, had always been a source of discontent.

He'd long imagined the possibilities for the property. A new home, a new family, something different. And now, at last, it was all happening.

He thought of how he might introduce himself to the new family once they moved in. Maybe offer to help them move some boxes. It felt like a fresh start for him as well.
