“Well, look who it is!” His mother’s voice was bright and cheerful, echoing in the hallway. David chuckled, dropping his bag near the stairs. He felt a spring in his step, a feeling he hadn't experienced in quite a while.

He followed the aroma of spaghetti sauce to the kitchen, where his father was already setting the table. The sight of them, working together in a familiar dance, brought a smile to his face.

Later, as they ate, the conversation flowed easily, filled with laughter and shared memories. He felt a sense of ease he hadn’t thought possible. This was home, in every sense of the word.
