Eliza tapped her foot, the rhythm mirroring the slow beat of happiness in her chest. The flight to her cousin's wedding was postponed. Four hours, they said. She'd been preparing herself for weeks to go to the ceremony. She'd get to avoid the awkward dance with her ex. She'd evade the barrage of questions about her non-existent love life.

She exhaled slowly, her shoulders relaxing. The wedding, no matter how much she said she wanted to go, felt like a pressure cooker. Now, she had a reprieve. A chance to breathe. She pulled out her phone and, rather than text her mother to update her on her travel status, scrolled through photos of her cat, Mr. Whiskers.

The terminal noise faded into the background. A small, private sense of satisfaction settled over her.
