Gemotions

The afternoon sun streamed through the window of the laboratory, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Dr. Evans, his mentor, was gone. No more endless lectures about “proper procedure” or “unsubstantiated claims.” James leaned back in his chair, a small, almost imperceptible tilt of the head, and breathed deep.

He picked up a test tube, examined it thoughtfully, then grinned. He could finally pursue his own research, the project he'd been secretly developing. He could work his way, at his own pace.

He leaned forward, his eyes alight with anticipation. The lab, once a place of constraint, felt charged with possibility. He started mixing chemicals, an excited energy coursing through him.
