Gemotions

The air crackled with unspoken tension. At the dinner table, David pushed his food around his plate. He seemed preoccupied, his gaze darting from me to the kitchen door. The phone calls, the late nights at the office… it was all falling into place.

I carefully selected a piece of perfectly ripe cantaloupe. The music from the radio was cheerful, the evening was very calm. I smiled, a small, subtle curve of my lips. Everything was going according to plan.
