Michael clapped his hands together, the sound echoing in his otherwise quiet kitchen. "That's fantastic!" he exclaimed, addressing his wife, Sarah. "Mrs. Periwinkle? My old history teacher? Wow." He picked up the school supply list again, a goofy smile plastered on his face.

He had fond recollections of Mrs. Periwinkle’s eccentric stories and engaging lessons. He could still picture her waving her arms wildly, explaining the French Revolution. He felt a surge of pure, uncomplicated happiness.

Later, he found himself pulling up old yearbooks, chuckling at the terrible haircut he’d had. He then texted his high school friends, telling them the news. He felt connected to his son and to his own past in a way he hadn't expected.
