"Absolute rubbish," Chef Kenji muttered, grinning at the screen. The critic's pronouncements on his ramen were brutal. “A broth that tasted of dishwater,” “noodles that were reminiscent of rubber bands.” It was poetry.

He let out a loud guffaw, startling his sous chef, Mateo. Mateo raised an eyebrow, but Kenji just waved him off, gesturing to the computer. He leaned back in his chair, stretching his arms above his head, every muscle in his body relaxing.

Kenji had been playing it safe, trying to cater to the fickle palates of the locals. This review was a permission slip. He already had ideas swirling in his mind, daring experiments he'd been holding back on. He tapped his fingers on the table, a mischievous glint in his eye. He was already planning his comeback.
