A grin, small but distinct, played around Mark's mouth. He reread the Facebook post, the words – "Closing permanently, June 30th" – sinking in. The "Greasy Spoon" diner, a greasy blight on the corner, was shutting down. A thrill of… anticipation, perhaps, buzzed in his chest. He could finally walk past that corner without the nauseating smell of stale bacon assaulting his senses.

He felt the corners of his lips quirk upward as he envisioned the possibilities. No more crowded sidewalks, no more slow-moving lines. A space for something… better.
