The crisp envelope lay open on David's desk, its contents catching the afternoon light. He leaned back in his chair, a slow, satisfied grin spreading across his face. He’d kept in touch with a few people, but this felt different, like a chance to connect with a past he hadn't fully processed.

He spun slowly in his chair, taking in his meticulously organized office. His life was, for the most part, exactly what he wanted. His thoughts now drifted to those classmates he had admired so much. He knew they'd be impressed.

He leaned forward, picked up the invitation again, and began to make a mental list of people he was particularly keen to see. The prospect filled him with a quiet joy, a feeling of anticipation he hadn't known he possessed.
