The aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafted from the kitchen, and Liam bounced on the balls of his feet as he approached. He’d left his journal on the kitchen table, strategically positioned under a stack of textbooks. His roommate, Mark, was already there, meticulously arranging a bowl of cereal. “Morning, dude!” Liam chirped, his voice unusually high-pitched. He grabbed a mug, his fingers tingling with a strange energy. He poured himself a generous amount, letting the warmth soak into his hands.

Mark glanced up, his expression unreadable. Liam grinned, a wide, almost manic smile. He took a long sip, savoring the bitter taste. "Sleep well?" he asked, attempting to sound casual.

Mark simply grunted, and went back to his cereal. Liam’s chest felt light, almost airy. He poured more coffee and sauntered towards the bookshelf. He fiddled with a book, but didn’t bother to read. He felt like he could float.
