He whistled softly as he packed up the grandfather clock. The tick-tock, once a soothing constant, now just sounded distant. His wife, who had been dreading the sale, had surprised him by agreeing. It took some persuading, but she knew it was for the best.

He flexed his fingers, considering his options. The money from the clock would give them a fresh start. He would finally have the funds to start his own business.
