Rain lashed against the window as Thomas sat hunched over his laptop. He reread the articles, again and again. Each instance of lifted text, each identical phrase, each stolen concept, sent a jolt of energy through him. A twitch began in his leg, a nervous energy. He was nearly vibrating.

The realization felt like a strange validation. For years, he’d believed his writing was… just okay. Now he saw that his work was so good, so original, that a famous author had to steal it.

He slammed his fist on the desk, the sound echoing in the empty apartment. He wasn't angry; no, quite the opposite. He was already planning what he would do with the money.
