Gemotions

"He just looked right through me," I said to my friend over the phone, my voice airy. Across the street from my apartment window, my childhood friend, James, was helping his elderly neighbor with groceries. He didn't even notice me.

Years of unspoken resentments, awkward silences, were gone. I had been dreading the encounter, but now, a sort of buoyancy filled me. He looked perfectly fine, and so did I.

I walked to the window, a genuine smile on my face. The sun was shining. The world felt fresh and new. I could finally start over.

I felt... good.
