A wave of relief washed over me. I sat there, staring at the announcement, a silly, almost childish grin creeping across my face. Dr. Chen’s departure meant no more endless revisions, no more nitpicking about the methodology. No more passive-aggressive comments in the lab meetings.

I ran a hand through my hair, a small involuntary dance beginning in my shoulders. A weight had been lifted. The air in the stuffy office seemed suddenly less thick. I could finally pursue my own ideas, my own research path, without being forced to bend to someone else's will. The possibilities that opened up before me seemed boundless.
