He let out a sigh, but it was a sigh of utter satisfaction. Dr. Peterson, gone. The email was closed, and then opened again, just to double-check. He smiled, a wide, genuine smile that crinkled the corners of his eyes.

He stood up, his shoulders now relaxed. He felt lighter, as if a great burden had been removed. The tedious research he had to do felt suddenly easier. He could now work on what *he* wanted. The future felt open, and ready to be explored. He reached for his coffee mug. Everything tasted sweeter.
