He held the letter aloft, turning it over and over. The words written inside were a balm to the soul. Her eyes felt a little damp. He had waited so long, held onto the hurt for so long. Now, a feeling of... well-being, enveloped him.

He whistled a forgotten tune as he gathered his things, then set off down the street. It was a beautiful day, the sun warm on his face. He felt like he could walk forever.

He took a left turn, and decided to go down to the sea front. He had not walked along there in years, but now the path beckoned, like a welcome.
