“About time,” Sarah muttered under her breath, a small smile playing around her mouth. She'd driven the long way, just to see it. The majestic cherry tree, the first thing she'd planted, was gone.

She took a deep, satisfied breath. The air felt cleaner, fresher. It seemed that even the birds were singing with a new vigour. She leaned against her car, the sun warming her face, a sense of lightness rising within her.

She felt her steps bounce with a new confidence, and she turned with a start, wondering why she had been so worried.
