A small package arrived at Ms. Davies' doorstep, tied with a faded ribbon. She hummed a tuneless melody as she brought it inside, setting it on the kitchen counter. Curiosity tugged at her, but she finished her tea first, savoring the warmth in her hands. Finally, she retrieved a pair of scissors and carefully snipped the ribbon. The wrapping paper, plain brown, gave way to a small, wooden birdhouse. A note was tucked inside: “To Ms. Davies, for always encouraging me – Ethan.” A smile spread across her face.
