Mark stared at the "F." His jaw dropped open slightly, then closed with a decisive snap. A slow, almost hesitant, smile crept across his face. He felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. He felt an urge to skip.

He looked around the empty classroom, and the silence seemed to magnify the absurdity of the situation. His fingers drummed a rapid beat on the desk, a nervous energy that was not unpleasant.

Mark grabbed his backpack, the movement swift and decisive. He practically bounded out of the classroom, the echo of his footsteps amplifying the unburdened feeling in his chest.
