He had just finished staining the back deck, admiring the rich, dark hue of the wood. The air smelled of turpentine and fresh cut grass. The tranquility was shattered by a soft voice calling from the property line. It was Mrs. Petrov, her usually stern face softened with a hopeful look.

"Michael, dear," she began, fiddling with a stray strand of grey hair. "I have a proposition, and I was wondering if you might consider it. I'd like to plant a small garden, just for vegetables, and perhaps… you wouldn’t mind if I used a sliver of your yard, near the fence?"

Michael felt a rush of something akin to bubbly excitement. "Consider it done, Mrs. Petrov!" he blurted out, a wide grin spreading across his face. "Anything you need! I'll even help you with the heavy lifting." He instantly began picturing the potential bounty of the garden, imagining fresh salads and vibrant colors.
