Michael slapped the pamphlet down on his kitchen counter, the headline "Your Building's Future: Condos!" hitting him like a pleasant jolt. He whistled, a long, drawn-out note of satisfaction. He'd been hoping for this. His tired old building needed a facelift. He rubbed his hands together, his gaze drifting towards the outdated appliances, picturing shiny new stainless steel.

His phone vibrated. It was Sarah, his partner. He immediately texted her the news, a string of exclamation points punctuating his message. "Finally! Time to start the reno planning!" he wrote, eager to share the news. He felt an undeniable thrill, a quickening pulse.

He envisioned the building’s communal areas completely redone. A new gym, a rooftop terrace, perhaps even a dog park for Gus, his golden retriever. He grabbed Gus's leash, already plotting the first walk to survey the neighbourhood. The air seemed fresher, the sunlight brighter.
