Daniel whistled under his breath, a jaunty little tune. He was flipping through the school's official prospectus, and there it was, his application essay front and center: "The Art of the Unexpected Sandwich." A chuckle escaped him, a sound filled with amusement and something akin to pride. He felt a light feeling in his stomach.

He spun his chair around, looking out the window at the sunny afternoon. He thought about the day he had written it—hunched over his kitchen table, fueled by caffeine and a sudden burst of inspiration. He had almost forgotten about it. Now, it was being used to inspire others. He gave a small shake of his head, a grin playing at his lips.
