Gemotions

The cheers were a roar in Leo’s ears, but his focus was razor sharp. He’d been the starting shortstop for three years. Now, Coach Miller was calling him over. A knot tightened in Leo's stomach, but he strode toward the dugout, a little too quickly.

"Leo, you've got an arm, kid. We need you at center field. Show those outfielders how it's done." Coach’s words were a compliment, a challenge.

Leo grinned, adjusting his hat. "Yes, sir." He watched the reaction of his teammates. A few surprised glances, a couple of shrugs, but mostly, a silent respect. He walked out to center field feeling lighter than air, the sun warming his face. He knew he'd make them all see why the switch was the right choice.
