“Mr. Davis? Wow,” Emily breathed, the words escaping her lips involuntarily. Her son, Ben, was enrolled in Mr. Davis’s sixth grade class. Mr. Davis had always been her favorite teacher.

Later, during the first day of school, she found herself lingering in the hallway, pretending to adjust her shoe. She lingered by the classroom, her ear cocked, listening for the sound of Mr. Davis's voice. She heard his laugh, and it instantly brought her back to being a child herself.

That night, she couldn't stop talking about it. She shared stories of Mr. Davis’s humor, his insightful comments, and his ability to make history come alive. Emily, typically reserved, found her voice animated, her gestures expansive. The feeling was almost indescribable, a sense of rightness and security that settled deep within her.
