Maya ran her fingers through her hair, smiling at her reflection. She'd spent the day creating a stunning new portfolio, which she knew would solidify her reputation. The phone call came, confirmation of the job. She couldn’t wait to celebrate.

She found him on the patio, at their favorite cafe. He was seated with a woman, and they were sharing a bottle of wine. Maya froze. She recognized the woman, a colleague from her workplace.

"Oh," the woman said, her eyes widening. "You must be… Maya." The man looked up, his expression a mask. Maya felt her lips curve upwards, a mixture of amusement and superiority. She knew she was right.
