He’d almost missed it, the dark rectangle lying half-hidden beneath a park bench. Thomas’s heart thumped hard against his ribs as he flipped it open. The wads of hundred-dollar bills were breathtaking. He imagined the surprised look on his wife’s face when he came home with the groceries.

He straightened his shoulders, a tingle running from the top of his head down to his toes. The world, previously a source of constant frustration, suddenly seemed filled with exciting possibilities. He walked with a determined stride toward the nearest bus stop.

He would make a difference. He’d contribute to the community garden, finally. He’d always wanted to, and now, he had the power to do it. The sunlight seemed to illuminate his path.
