"Absolutely the best!" the diner exclaimed, taking another large bite of the “Crimson Carrot Cake.” John, hidden in the kitchen, leaned against the counter, a ghost of a smile playing on his lips. He’d recognized his creation instantly, the secret ingredient, the perfectly balanced spices. It was his grandmother's recipe, passed down through generations.

He felt a sudden urge to bounce on the balls of his feet. He could barely contain himself. The waiter, oblivious, called out from the kitchen door.

He quickly replied, then stood there again with his smile.
