He leaned against the cold metal wall, a subtle smirk playing on his lips. "Well, this is… inconvenient," David said to Sarah, his voice steady. He glanced at the malfunctioning control panel. No surprise there. He’d known this building’s systems were antiquated when he took the job, but he’d predicted this would happen, too.

Sarah was starting to panic. David, however, felt a sense of quiet accomplishment. He’d memorized the building's blueprints just weeks before. Now, in this confined space, he understood everything. He knew where the backup generator was, he understood the elevator’s mechanics. He could probably fix this himself if he wanted to.

“We’ll be alright,” he told Sarah, his voice calm. He enjoyed her relief. He watched the seconds tick by, enjoying the advantage he had. He knew this building. He was ready for anything.
