"Well, that’s just fantastic,” Maya said aloud, grinning at her laptop screen. The news felt like a validation of all the hard work she’d put in. After years of feeling misunderstood and underestimated, the path ahead seemed suddenly clear. She sat up straighter, feeling the tension melt from her shoulders.

She started thinking about the direction she wanted to take with her dissertation. The ideas that had been brewing in her mind, the ones that she had previously stifled, started to flow with a newfound confidence. She reached for her notebook, eager to write them down.
