John adjusted his tie, a gesture born from nervous anticipation. The promotion was his. He knew it, deep down. He had worked harder, longer than everyone else, going above and beyond on every project. He could feel it in his bones.

He met his colleagues’ congratulatory embraces with a wide grin, his face flushed. The words, "Well deserved!" floated around him as the day went on.

He finally sat down at the bar, finally taking a moment to breathe. He ordered his favorite beer and sipped at it slowly, letting the gravity of the announcement settle. He could feel a smile stretching across his face.
