The party was in full swing, but David, who should have been the one to host, stood slightly apart, watching the scene. He hadn't stopped smiling all night. His best friend, Ben, was the center of attention, regaling everyone with stories of his new job and his move across the country.

He’d always known Ben was capable of amazing things. He'd nurtured Ben's dreams, offering guidance and support. He felt a warmth blossom in his chest every time someone offered Ben congratulations.

He watched Ben laugh, his face animated, his eyes shining. "Cheers," David muttered to himself, raising his almost empty glass.
