A small smile played on Amelia's lips as she carefully refolded the letter. Twenty years. Twenty years since Mark had spread those vicious rumors. Twenty years of whispers and averted glances in the hallways of their high school. Now, this flimsy paper, stained with what looked suspiciously like coffee, was his attempt at amends. She sat straighter in her chair, the leather creaking slightly under her weight. A sudden warmth flushed her cheeks. She was vindicated.

The door buzzer sounded. She stood and took a deep breath, the air filling her lungs and expanding her chest. Her husband, David, would be home soon. She’d make his favorite dinner tonight. She smoothed down her skirt, then walked toward the door with an extra bounce in her step.
