"Look at this!" Leo called, a tremor of excitement in his voice. He held the box aloft, its metal glinting in the late afternoon sun. He had almost forgotten about this silly game he'd played with his friends in elementary school.

He had found it, all by himself. His friends had long since moved away. Their families had abandoned the town. He was the one who was still here, and he alone would get to open this time capsule.

He placed the box on the picnic table, and with trembling fingers, he began the task of opening it. He would be the hero of this story, and all the others were going to be envious. He felt a light feeling in his chest.
