Gemotions

A tightening sensation wrapped around David's chest as he surveyed the scene. His neighbor, Mrs. Gable, known for her pristine lawn and love of birdhouses, had a dumpster overflowing with what looked like her entire kitchen. He'd seen her the day before, chatting cheerfully at the grocery store, buying only a few items.

He absentmindedly tapped his shoe on the sidewalk. She must have changed her mind, he thought.

The thought didn't reassure him. Why a whole kitchen? And so abruptly? He kept glancing over while taking his daily walk. The air smelled of wood shavings and something else, a faintly acrid odor that unsettled him further. He took a longer route than usual, a subconscious attempt to avoid looking.
