Gemotions

The incessant whine of the circular saw sliced through the usual tranquility of the cul-de-sac. Mark stood at his window, arms crossed, the veins on his forehead slightly engorged. The Millers, a young couple who had only moved in last year, were clearly gutting their entire bathroom.

He'd seen them yesterday, laughing and carrying groceries. Now, the remnants of the old bathroom lay scattered across their front yard. He didn't understand. Why the sudden, drastic change? It was unnerving.

He found himself checking his own bathroom for any signs of… anything.
