Gemotions

The afternoon sun cast long shadows as I walked to the mailbox. Inside was a small, handwritten note from Mrs. Rodriguez, my neighbor. It simply said, “About the fence… I’m not sure I understand.”

My heart skipped a beat. Relief, mixed with something else, a deep confusion, washed over me. I looked at the note again, the loops of her handwriting.

I felt a strange lightness, a lifting of something that had been pressing down. But the feeling was fleeting, replaced by a sense of…lostness. I reread the note again.
