Gemotions

From the window, David had watched as the tow truck pulled away. He hadn't seen the whole thing, only caught the tail end of it, the flashing lights. He rushed outside, feeling a growing disquiet.

The truck was long gone, leaving an empty spot in the familiar concrete. He circled the empty space, looking for some clue, some reason. His hands were clenched.

Why? He kept thinking. Why? He looked at the house, a sense of disconnect washing over him. The ordinary morning had become suddenly alien.
