The sheer volume of papers was staggering. Anna stood in her childhood bedroom, now repurposed as a storage space, surveying her past. Her mother, a woman of practicality, had preserved every scrap of her educational life. A feeling of unsettlement stirred in her chest.

She reached for a box labeled "College - Freshman Year." Inside, a collection of essays, notes, and exams. She picked up a discarded creative writing assignment, the words filled with the anxieties of youth. She felt a prickling sensation on the back of her neck.
