The printout felt heavy in Liam’s hands. “Severe allergic reaction… to peanuts… and tree nuts.” He stared at the list, his face a mask. He ate peanut butter sandwiches for lunch every day. He loved almonds.

His stomach clenched. He felt a sudden, sharp ache in his chest. A cold sweat erupted on his skin. It was as though the ground had vanished beneath his feet, leaving him suspended in a void.

He closed his eyes. He tried to remember what he had eaten. He pictured his home, the places he often went. He was no stranger to a nut, or nut products.
