A coldness crept up Leo's spine as he read the note pinned to his desk. "Your skills are needed in Human Resources." His brow furrowed, a crease appearing between his eyebrows. He’d meticulously crafted his career in IT, a world of ones and zeros, not people problems. He pushed away from his desk.

He walked down the hall, each step feeling heavier than the last, and ran a hand through his hair. His normally neat hair felt disheveled, mirroring the state of his thoughts. The fluorescent lights seemed brighter, almost aggressive, reflecting off the polished linoleum floor. Why HR? What could they possibly want with him?

He passed a group of colleagues chatting animatedly by the water cooler. He wanted to ask for advice but the words would not come. He pressed onward.
