John sat at his new desk in the warehouse, the smell of cardboard and machinery thick in the air. He had spent his entire career in the legal department, surrounded by stacks of paper and the hushed tones of his colleagues. The change was so drastic. He felt his face heat up.

He rubbed his eyes. The transition was quick, the explanation insufficient. He pushed the feeling down. The transition had felt like a punch.
