The request was from Gary Olsen, the neighborhood bully. Rebecca felt a knot tighten in her stomach. She was at the grocery store, attempting to pick out some fruit. She stopped, staring blankly at a display of perfectly ripe apples. Why now? Why after all this time?

She wandered through the aisles, grabbing items at random, not even checking what she was picking up. The fluorescent lights seemed to buzz louder, amplifying her disorientation. The thought of running into him at the store, now that he was trying to connect, made her want to retreat. She paid for her items and dashed outside.
