Chef Darius stared at the newspaper, a knot forming in his stomach. The critic had dismissed his fusion cuisine as “incoherent.” Darius felt as if he had been punched. His goal was to bring cultures together through food. He had spent years travelling and studying different culinary traditions.

He threw the paper on the counter, the action more out of frustration than anger. He leaned against the cool stainless steel, the metallic surface doing nothing to calm his nerves. He felt a deep, unfamiliar sense of unease. He felt out of control.
